World Mental Health Day: It can happen to anyone

Australia Counsellling mental health bloggerAt the moment we are talking a lot about mental health, it is after all mental health week and to be sure it is a subject that needs to be addressed not for a week or a day but at all times. It is a start anyway and a mighty good one at that…

What’s important to remember is that feeling blue to the point of questioning one’s place in the here and now, hearing voices, feeling paranoid, hyper anxious and irrational, do not happen to “special” people, chosen by fate/destiny/environment individuals or the neighbours down the street: it can happen to anyone…and in fact it does

If we are honest with ourselves we can all find a point in time when irrational fear took hold or jealousy or depression or anger…These are not emotions acted out by a few but belong to all of us and we all behave madly sometimes. So lets make sure that when we see it in our mist we stop pointing the finger or look somewhere else; it is not contagious by the way, only at rugby or football games…

So lets reach out and offer a smile, a helping hand or simply say “Hello, how are you?” and mean it
