Will counselling help me?

The success of counselling relies heavily on two major concepts: the therapeutic alliance or more simply if the relationship with your therapist is working for you both and your level of motivation in desiring change.

A seasoned professional has the tools and the strategies to bring to the surface the underlying issues that are at the root of the problem.  And the saying that “two heads are better than one” definitely applies.Sometimes simply being listened to is enough for the person to clarify situations that seemed impossible and re-inforce already known solutions. And sometimes these situations need to be explored in more depths.

How long will I be staying in therapy or counselling?

There are no rule of thumbs to work out how long the treatment will take.  It depends, mainly on your initial goal and what we bring up to the surface during sessions.  We start with small steps and realistic goals to be achieved.  In my experience simpler issues take between 5 to 10 one hour weekly sessions. Some PTSD treatment can take only 2 or 3 sessions while using the REWIND Therapy.

Longer term therapy varies according to your individual needs and progress. But, you are always free to decide when to stop, you are in charge.

Will I be able to maintain the changes?

There is nothing like shifting your perception of yourself to establish permanent changes in beliefs and behaviour.  It is as powerful as say, turning slightly the wheel of your car to competely alter your trajectory.
